This early season ride runs through the avocado and lemon orchards north of Highway 118 and then out to Ventura, around Lake Casitas, out to Carpinteria, south along the coast to Port Hueneme and then back to Moorpark for the finish. Beware of secret controls. Weather permitting, you should have some good views of Anacapa and the easternmost Channel Islands, but remember to keep your eyes on the road.
On January 10, Sunrise will be at 7:04 and Sunset at 17:06. We will be starting just before civil twilight, so front & rear lights, reflective leg bands & reflective vests are required for all riders. Our start time is an attempt at maximizing daylight for all riders. Please check out the RUSA rules on reflective gear. Be responsible and be safe.
Assume it will be quite cool in the early morning and at night. Fog is always a potential along the coast so bring gloves, arm warmers and a jacket or be prepared to be cold and damp!
Food & drinks: Pizza! We will have the wood fired, brick oven in full operation at the finish. Don’t bonk, but try and arrive with a healthy appetite and we will fill you up with a pizza made to your order.
Start Location: Tierra Rejada Park – Across Mountain Trail from the Von’s Shopping Center 4241 Tierra Rejada, Moorpark, CA 93021. The finish will be approximately one mile from the start location. You may wish to park closer to the finish, just be courteous to our neighbors and make sure you read the parking signs.
To register for this event please complete the registration form and waiver and make sure to add yourself to the registered rider list so we can make sure to have food/drinks for everyone. Bring your completed registration form and a check made out to Channel Islands Bicycle Club or cash for the appropriate fee so we can get you on your way quickly.
SAG / Support: This is a typical Randonneur event where you are required to be self-sufficient. However, SAG will be available on call to those who have a cell phone. Given the length of the course it may be some time before we can get to you, so be prepared with sufficient warm clothing/emergency blankets/food/water, etc. so you are comfortable and safe until we can reach you. As always in an emergency call 911.
